In the Ladbrokes Portland (2.35) at Doncaster on Saturday, Mark Johnston’s three-year-old Indescribable makes a quick reappearance after finishing last of fifteen, beaten 20 lengths, in a similar race at Haydock last Saturday and could go well at generous odds. A sound surface appears to be a necessity for the son of Invincible Spirit, so his last two starts are best forgotten and he’s not badly treated on his best form.

He finished strongly when beating subsequent dual winner Maljaa, off a 3lb lower mark, in a 0-95 contest, over 5 furlongs at Goodwood in July and his subsequent form on top of the ground also bears close inspection. He’s well drawn, close to the stands’ side rail, in stall 18 of 22, yet is the outsider of the whole field at 33/1. Either the bookmakers know something we don’t or he seems extraordinarily generously priced and he can improve Silvestre De Sousa’s already healthy 24% strike rate for Mark Johnston this season.
